Detroit Tigers Drop Heartbreaker to Oakland Athletics, 7-6

Tigers Fall in 13 Innings

The Detroit Tigers fell to the Oakland Athletics in a heart-breaking 13-inning game on Wednesday night. The Tigers led 5-3 in the ninth inning, but the Athletics tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Tigers then took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 13th inning, but the Athletics again tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

In the bottom of the 13th inning, the Athletics loaded the bases with one out. Tony Kemp then hit a walk-off single to give the Athletics the 7-6 victory.

Tigers Offense Struggles

The Tigers offense struggled to get going on Wednesday night. They managed just six hits and two walks against Athletics pitching.

Miguel Cabrera was the only Tiger with multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.

The Tigers also left nine runners on base, including five in scoring position.

Bullpen Lets Down Tigers

The Tigers bullpen let them down on Wednesday night. They allowed four runs on six hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings.

Gregory Soto allowed two runs in the ninth inning, while Joe Jimenez allowed two runs in the 13th inning.

The Tigers bullpen has now allowed 12 runs in 11 1/3 innings this season.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will look to bounce back on Thursday night when they face the Athletics in the second game of their three-game series.

Matt Manning will start for the Tigers, while James Kaprielian will start for the Athletics.
