555 Alphorn Players Attempt to Break World Record

The Alpine horn, a long, wooden instrument played in the Swiss Alps, is the focus of a unique world record attempt.

555 alphorn players will gather in the Swiss town of Interlaken on September 18th, 2023, in an effort to break the current record for the largest alphorn ensemble.

The current record was set in 2014 by a group of 406 alphorn players in Switzerland. The 555 players in this new attempt will be led by professional alphornist, Daniel Schaerer.

Schaerer said he hopes the event will raise awareness of the alphorn and its unique sound. "The alphorn is a beautiful instrument and we want to share its magic with the world," he said.

The attempt will take place at the Höheweg Stadium in Interlaken, and the public is welcome to attend. The event will also be livestreamed on the website of the Alpine Horn Association.

The event will be judged by a Guinness World Records adjudicator, and the results will be announced after the event.

Here are some interesting facts about the alphorn:

  • The alphorn is a wooden wind instrument that is typically between 7 and 12 feet long.
  • It is played by blowing into a mouthpiece at one end of the horn, and the sound is amplified by the long, narrow tube.
  • The alphorn is a traditional instrument that has been played in the Swiss Alps for centuries.
  • It is used to communicate across valleys and mountains, and is also used for playing traditional folk music.

The world record attempt is a great way to celebrate the unique sound and tradition of the alphorn.
We wish the 555 players all the best in their attempt to break the world record!
