D'Angelo Russell Makes Lakers Return, Traded to Timberwolves in Deal Involving Andrew Wiggins

Former Lakers Guard Returns to Los Angeles, Nets Star Heads to Minnesota

Russell's Lakers Return and Wiggins Trade

On February 11, D'Angelo Russell made his return to the Los Angeles Lakers, putting up 15 points, five rebounds, and six assists in a 109-103 win over his former team, the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors, in turn, have officially traded Russell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Andrew Wiggins and a protected 2021 first-round draft pick.

Russell's 33-game tenure with the Warriors was a brief but eventful one. He averaged 23.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game in his lone season with the team. However, the Warriors were eliminated in the first round of the 2021 playoffs, and Russell himself had a disappointing performance in the series. Despite his brief stay, Russell has expressed his appreciation for his time in the Bay Area.

The trade to the Timberwolves is a fresh start for both Russell and the Warriors. Russell will join a young and talented Timberwolves team that is looking to make a playoff push in the Western Conference. The Warriors, meanwhile, will add a proven scorer and defender in Wiggins who can help them compete for an NBA championship.

The trade is a win-win for both teams, and it will be interesting to see how Russell and Wiggins perform in their new roles.
